Skye Cardigan English

A soft cardigan worked flat, top down, seamlessly with a beautiful smocking stitch on the yoke.

The three-dimensional smocking stitch can be emphasized with a “fluffy” fiber like mohair that can be used together with a merino or similar yarn.

When the yoke is done, some short rows are worked to give extra length to the back and give the cardigan a comfortable fit.

The body and the sleeves are then worked in stockinette stitch.

The sleeves are worked in the round.

Suggested yarn: the sample is knitted with 1 strand of lace weight held together with 1 strand of light fingering weight wool.

Yarn used for the sample in pictures: 1 strand of Holst Garn Supersoft (50g - 287 m /315 yds: 50% merino wool and 50% shetland wool) and 1 strand of Holst Garn Lucia (25 g - 200 meters/219 yards: 42% Baby Alpaca, 35% Mulberry Silk, 13% Merino Wool and 10% Yak) held together.

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] with 4 mm (US 6) needles in stockinette stitch, after washing and blocking. If your gauge doesn’t match, your final sweater proportions are not going to be true to size. Adjust your needle size accordingly to meet gauge. 

Needles: 3.5 mm (US 4), 4.00 mm (US 6) and 4.5 mm (US 7)
